Dandelion

carefully stepping over
as I walk
towards that gate

a dandelion picked
and squashed
now in discarded fate

she held it – innocent
happiness
on the way here in the car

smiling grinning laughing
saying
fwower fwower fwower

it fell from little hands
as did
her happiness when

she flung her arms around me
knowing
what was to happen then

when I reached that metal gate
I gave
into my pain

running back
to pick it up
I took her happiness home.

All Day Long

ALL DAY LONG

Mother?,
Whose mother?
I am Mother.
Heart breaking, aching,
Raking up the love
Me while I dish it out,
Get out from under my feet!
Can’t walk another step,
Hold her tight,
While the night,
Closes her eyes and
she whispers,
I love you all day long Mum.
